State Emergency Service says residents who have not prepared for flooding should leave, but only if it is safe to do so

The South Australian towns of Virginia and Port Wakefield are under direct threat from flooding after the Gawler and Wakefield rivers burst their banks.

A flood levee protecting the small town of Virginia, on the northern outskirts of Adelaide, failed about 7am on Saturday, prompting the State Emergency Service (SES) to issue an emergency warning.
