Mud Jeans are an old favourite as an example of the circular economy in action. They take old jeans and find a way to either re-purpose the material or re-sell the clothing directly, reportedly succeeding in terms of their margins. However, with increasing attention being paid to what the circular economy might mean for fashion and the textiles industry more broadly, this latest update from the Huffington Post is worth reading.
How do sea cucumber farming, industrial scale insect meal, algal oral vaccines and aquaponics relate? They are all ideas present in the finalists for the latest Blue Economy Challenge. The InnovationX run challenge has certainly inspired some creative thinking and the short descriptions of the 20 finalists are well worth a read!
It’s one of the toughest challenges of the 21st century? How do we feed our growing city populations in a way that is effective and can work in the long-term? Nobody has “the” answer yet, but this piece published by World Watch Institute has some interesting thought on what a circular food system could look like!
“The Silicon Valley for agriculture” might sound like an oxymoron, but on a site near Aarhus in Denmark, that is exactly what William McDonough + Partners and GXN, along with 3XN Architects, BCVA and Urland are trying to do. The project’s goal is to inspire agricultural innovations that enable greater food security in the future. Find out more about what they are doing here.
